Great Way Martial Art’s goal is to
develop black belts mentally as well
as physically. Therefore, we require
a standard of behavior at home and
grade achievement at school before
allowing students to test for
promotion. Most parents report that
these goals for testing will
increase a child's desire to
improve.
1.Good home report (child must be
behaving at home with respectful &
positive attitude).
2.Good school report (no failing
grades, brown belt and above).
3.White Belt students must have
completed at least one month of
training to be eligible to test
4.Existing students must not
completed a minimum amount of
classes since their last exam to be
eligible to test. Consistent
attendance is very important.
5.We believe that the final say
whether a student is promoted or not
is the Parent’s so we work very hard
to communicate any concerns we may
have regarding a student’s
promotion. We ask all parents for
the same communication. You will
find our “Permission
to Belt Exam” sheet very
helpful if you are concerned or do
not want your child to be promoted
yet. Please fill it out and hand it
in at your child’s next class.
Promotion testing for Rock Solid
Children, Kids, Teens and the Adults
students are scheduled four times a
year in the months of September,
December, March & June. This is a
very exciting time for students who
have worked to gain proficiency in
their skills. The testing fees,
which commonly are $30 to $40 are
included in your gear package which
includes a new belt. Please see the
"Promotional
Belt System" to learn
about the order of belts white to
black.
Saturday Promotion is scheduled at
the end of the belt exam week. See
our “Testing
Schedule” for details.
During the Promotion the students in
the Rock Solid Kids & Teens Program
will be demonstrating some of the
exam material followed by receiving
their new belt and certificate. Rock
Solid Children Students do not have
an exam to complete however we do
require they have a minimum of 8
stripes and are awarded their new
belt in regular class during belt
exam week. Parents, family & friends
are welcome to join this
celebration. Adult students begin
their promotion with a seminar
followed by receiving their new belt
& certificate.
It is necessary for us to conduct
all belt exams and provide upgrade
conferences before starting to work
on the new schedule (if any). If a
new schedule is decided it will be
available the week following
Promotion Saturday. Students who are
moving into a new phase should
attend their normal class time until
after Promotion Saturday and their
new class times have been confirmed
with the Academy.
Students moving into a new phase
with a new class schedule do so the
week after Belt Exams and
Promotions. We try very hard to make
the schedule work for everyone, but
we cannot guarantee that you will
get your first preference of class
times. Students should expect to
change class schedules twice a year
with belt advancements.
